It’s been four long years since the English Cricket team toured Australia. Now the Magellan Ashes series are returning to Australia starting on November 23 and running through until January 27 next year. The Ashes series is one of the world’s greatest and most renowned sporting contests and is in Australia for the first time in four years. The event is unmissable with crowds predicted to turn out in droves to experience the field rivalry and friendly competition between England and Australia. For anyone who’s familiar with the Ashes, you’ll know that the England cricket team don’t stand alone. Welcome, the Barmy Army!
WHO ARE THE BARMY ARMY?
The Barmy Army started as a group of 30 fans chanting and conga-ing their way around Australia. The group was founded by David Peacock, Paul Burnham and Gareth Evans during England’s Ashes tour of Australia in 1994/95. The Army now exceeds 65,000 English men and women who all share the same common values. These are to support the England team, have fun and spend plenty of time partying together both on and off the pitch!
