February Live Sport Wrap-Up

We said it last month and we’ll say it again. What a fantastic month of sport we just had! Highlights in February included Superbowl LI, the beginning of the Indian tour for the Australian cricketers and it was also a huge month for rugby around the world. Between the Auckland 9’s, the inaugural Brisbane Global Rugby 10’s and the start of the Super Rugby season, rugby fans around the country were rejoicing.

After a lot of hype leading up to Superbowl 51, the event did not disappoint. The Falcons played out of their skins and going into the fourth quarter they had a commanding lead. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick combined to then produce one of the best comebacks in Superbowl history to lift the trophy! After claiming his 5th Superbowl ring, you would have to assume that Tom Brady has secured his future spot in the Hall of Fame when he decides to retire.

Moving from the glitz and glamour of the Superbowl onto the incredible heat of the Brisbane 10’s. As an avid rugby fan, I was excited for the inaugural Brisbane 10’s competition. Despite the heat it did not disappoint! A personal highlight was reliving my youth watching Andrew Walker, Radike Samo or Lote Tuquiri on the field. Yes, attendance may not have been as high as expected but with the on-field temperature exceeding 40 degrees can you really blame the fans for huddling in air conditioned bars or homes to watch the games? I’m sure the crowds will be considerably larger next year.

The 1st test of the 2017 Australian tour of India will go down in the record books as the first victory by a touring team in India in five years. At the time of writing, Australia hold a 50-run lead in the second test… Can we win a tour on Indian soil for the first time in 12 years? A victory in the second test would put us in a fantastic position to pull of the near impossible.

WHAT’S BIG IN SPORT NEXT MONTH?

See you all next month for a jam packed March. Expect NRL, Super Rugby, A-League, AFL, UFC and hopefully an Australian series victory in India. All LIVE at Pig ‘N’ Whistle of course! Click here to see our live sport schedule for this week.
