Beer of the Month: James Squire Summer Swindler
With all things beer that have already happened in 2017 and that are still yet to come (Brewsvegas, anyone?), we thought it was timely to choose a beer of the month. Summer has technically come to an end but we can’t really remember the last time it actually stopped being hot in March.
Our Beer of the Month comes courtesy of our friends over at James Squire… The legend goes that James Squire was the first craft brewer in Australia so it isn’t too surprising that a fair few of his beers have made their way onto taps at Pig ‘N’ Whistle. So, without further ado, let’s show our appreciation for the Swindler Summer Ale.
The Swindler is a refreshingly dry Summer ale. It pairs a firm malt base with a cunning blend of Calypso and El dorado hops. The Swindler’s appearance is light straw in colour with a billowy head and those who know take note of aromas, you’ll sense tropical notes of pear and watermelon.
Style: Summer Ale
Hops: El dorado & Calypso
Malts: Pale, Wheat, Crystal
BEER PAIRING TIPS
The Swindler pairs wells with seafood and summery lean meats and is a perfect companion on warmer Brisbane days. Try the Swindler alongside West End’s Mooloolaba Prawn Spaghetti with calamari, mussels, cream, garlic and basil or Indooroopilly’s Harissa Chicken & Peach Salad with hommus, iceberg, radish, pickled cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage and labneh.
Feeling a little extra naughty? We’re partial to enjoying dessert alongside the Swindler so try it with King George Square’s Tiramisu.
